    Optimum range of angle tracking radars: a theoretical computing

    In this paper, we determine an optimal range for angle tracking radars (ATRs) based on evaluating the standard deviation of all kinds of errors in a tracking system. In the past, this optimal range has often been computed by the simulation of the total error components; however, we are going to introduce a closed form for this computation which allows us to obtain the optimal range directly. Thus, for this purpose, we firstly solve an optimization problem to achieve the closed form of the optimal range (Ropt.) and then, we compute it by doing a simple simulation. The results show that both theoretical and simulation-based computations are similar to each other

    Influence of Earthquake Parameters on the Bi-directional Behavior of Base Isolation Systems

    The introduction and development of the base isolation systems, especially the friction isolator device, were done recently to improve the capacity of adaptive behavior. The efficiency of multi-phase friction pendulums comes from their complexity, which helps reduce the structural responses and enhance structures' energy dissipation under lateral loads. Nevertheless, the influence of various earthquakes' properties on the behavior of base-isolation systems subjected to bi-directional seismic loading is still unclear. Hence, further research and studies regarding the behavior and capability of these systems under bi-directional loading are still necessary before incorporating this device in real-life practical applications. Therefore, this paper is intended to investigate the bi-directional behavior of the friction isolator subjected to various ground motion records. In order to do so, different versions of the friction pendulum system are selected and compared within the study context. Generally, the study's results have shown that the behavior of the friction isolator is highly dependent on low values of the PGA/PGV ratio.     Forward error correction based on algebraic-geometric theory

    This book covers the design, construction, and implementation of algebraic-geometric codes from Hermitian curves. Matlab simulations of algebraic-geometric codes and Reed-Solomon codes compare their bit error rate using different modulation schemes over additive white Gaussian noise channel model. Simulation results of Algebraic-geometric codes bit error rate performance using quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM and 64QAM) are presented for the first time and shown to outperform Reed-Solomon codes at various code rates and channel models. The book proposes algebraic-geometric block turbo codes. It also presents simulation results that show an improved bit error rate performance at the cost of high system complexity due to using algebraic-geometric codes and Chase-Pyndiah’s algorithm simultaneously. The book proposes algebraic-geometric irregular block turbo codes (AG-IBTC) to reduce system complexity. Simulation results for AG-IBTCs are presented for the first time

    Secure Channel Coding Schemes based on Algebraic-Geometric Codes over Hermitian Curves

    Algebraic-Geometric (AG) codes are new paradigm in coding theory with promising performance improvements and diverse applications in point to point communications services and system security. AG codes offer several advantages over stateof-the art Reed-Solomon (RS) codes. Algebraic-Geometric Codes are proposed and implemented in this paper. The design, construction and implementation are investigated and a software platform has been developed. Simulation results are presented for the first time showing significant performance improvements of AG codes over RS codes using different modulation schemes. The superiority in error correcting and security of AG codes over RS codes has been demonstrated clearly when Rayleigh fading channel is used. Also the results show an obvious improvement when using higher modulation schemes, namely 16QAM and 64QAM
